An outstanding professional with the highest level of service and dedication to Junior Achievement.
Jerry served as a Junior Achievement professional for more than 37 years and continues to play an important role today through his Chairmanship of the JA Pioneers. He began his career as Executive Director in Canton, Ohio in 1970 and after gaining three years of experience moved to Baltimore, Maryland as Executive Vice President. In 1978 Jerry took the reins of President for JA in Cincinnati, Ohio, a position he held until 1986. His final and longest professional role for Junior Achievement was as president in Houston, Texas, where he served for twenty one years. Jerry retired in 2007.
Confirming his status as a Junior Achievement leader, Jerry has been the recipient of many performance awards during his long and distinguished career, including the Above & Beyond Innovation Award, the Financial Management Award, the Peak Performance Award (multiple times), the Summit Award for 19 consecutive years (13 at the Platinum level), and the Charles R. Hook Award. Under his leadership, JA of Southeast Texas was recognized as the best managed nonprofit in Houston as recipient of the Thousand Points of Light Award.
Jerry served the organization through participation on many taskforces and committees including 22 years on the Pension Management Committee, the Personnel Committee, the Field Operations Advisory Committee (FOAC), the Regional Training Seminar (Chair 1976,1984), the Leadership Academy (Chair 1997-99), the National Training Seminar Committee (Vice Chair 1991 and 2004), the Certified Accreditation Process Committee (Team Leader 1997) and President’s Roundtable (Chair 1992-94).
In reflecting on his career, Jerry stated, “It has been an honor to work with dedicated and talented staff and thousands of motivated volunteers in Canton, Baltimore, Cincinnati and Houston. Sharing their knowledge and our successes with hundreds of JA associates throughout the United States and around the world has been a very special bonus.”
Jerry recognizes the positive impact that a family’s support has on any career, including his own. He thanks his wife, Lana, his sons Chris and Brad, and his granddaughter Daphne for all of their love, encouragement and support that has been vital to his success.
