Ron Cody’s career with JA spans more than 50 years as a student, volunteer, and staff member.
Cody’s first connection with Junior Achievement was as a student in the JA Company Program. His love for the organization grew from that initial experience and he volunteered with JA throughout his college years. In 1959 his professional career with JA began in Milwaukee as a program manager and later he served as program director and fundraiser. Cody’s career in JA then took him to Cleveland to work for the National organization in the Central Region Service Center. In 1970, he became chief staff officer in Louisville, Ky., and in 1972 he was promoted to president of JA in Minneapolis.
After directing the merger of JA operations in Minneapolis and St. Paul in 1982, Cody was selected to lead the combined organization as president. He led a successful expansion effort for that operation as the area expanded beyond the Twin Cities to more than 70 communities in Minnesota, North Dakota, and the border counties of Wisconsin, and grew to impacting more than 100,000 students each year.
Officially retiring in 2001, Cody continued to support JA Worldwide as a National Service Consultant, assisting and advising several local JA offices. Today he is involved with the JA Pioneers, and as an “informal” advisor to countless JA professionals, further demonstrating his high level of service and dedication to Junior Achievement.
Cody is one of only three individuals to win the Charles R. Hook Award twice in his JA career. The award is the highest honor bestowed upon a JA president.
