Terence B. “Terry” Jarchow
(1940 - 2000)
Inducted:   2003

Terry Jarchow began his long and distinguished career with JA in 1970 as a program manager for Junior Achievement in St. Louis, and later as director of development and then VP of Operations. In the summer of 1980, Jarchow was appointed president of the office, a post he would hold for the next 19 years.

Throughout his career with JA, Jarchow was involved with a number of task forces and committees. He served on the Field Operations Advisory Committee (FOAC) and was its inaugural chair. He chaired the Metro Strategy Committee, RTS, and Presidents’ Roundtable. He was also instrumental on numerous national task forces and committees.

Jarchow also helped shape the direction of the organization through his service on both the Vision ’99 Strategic Planning Task Force and the ImpACT 2005 Strategic Planning Task Force.

In 1985, he won the Charles R. Hook Award – JA’s highest honor for a chief staff officer.

It was Jarchow’s stable leadership style of “all for one and one for all” that truly had an impact on those involved with JA around the country.

Jarchow’s career with JA ended in 1999 when he retired due to health reasons. In March of 2000 he passed away after his battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease. A former board chair in St. Louis commented that “Terry was a valuable and respected leader of our community. I was proud to serve with him and I speak for the entire board when I say that Terry built Junior Achievement into one of this community’s most respected organizations.”
