Volunteers:

Thank you for making the commitment to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. You are an important part of the success of Junior Achievement!

Your presence at Capital One/Junior Achievement Finance Park will be invaluable. You will share a vast array of personal experiences with children and a vision of the many career and life choices that are available to them. In addition, you will inspire them by showing interest in their efforts to practice and apply personal financial management skills.

The JA staff is ready and available to make sure you are successful at Capital One/Junior Achievement Finance Park. Relax, have fun, enjoy the students, and, most of all, know that your commitment and passion are appreciated.

Student Characteristics: Seventh through Ninth Grade – 12- to 15-year-olds

Never underestimate this age group. They want to learn about almost everything and they have the ability to think abstractly.  More important, they need to feel cared about and respected by the adults in their lives. Consequently, no matter what textbooks, materials, or curriculum guides are used, the teachers are the curriculum. Developing comfortable and secure relationships with the students is a high priority.

Volunteer Preparation:

  • Prior to your volunteer experience, read, sign, and return the local JA Area Office required forms. If you do not have the link to these forms, check with your local JA Area Office.

  • Arrive on time the day of your volunteer experience. Provide adequate notice if you are unable to attend.

  • Schedule a time for the mandatory volunteer training. Most volunteers are trained the morning of their volunteer experience. Plan to arrive for training 90 minutes prior to the students’ scheduled arrival time.

  • If you have been previously trained, plan to arrive 20-30 minutes prior to the students’ arrival. A Volunteer Guide and a mobile staff member will be available to update you on your volunteer role and responsibilities.

  • Dress Code: Comfortable shoes and clothes. No jeans.

  • Whether you are a new or experienced volunteer, you can prepare for your day at Capital One/Junior Achievement Finance Park using online resources. Below are links to volunteer preparation forms which include a mobile daily schedule and details on the volunteer role during the four main phases of the day.
