The Capital One/Junior Achievement Volunteer Experience
Without
the commitment of its volunteers, Capital One/Junior
Achievement Finance Park would not be possible. Volunteers
share a vast array of personal experiences with students,
assist them as they make budget decisions, and discuss with
them career and life choices.
JA staff provide support to ensure both the volunteers and students have fun and have an enriching experience.
Student Characteristics: Seventh through Ninth Grade – 12- to 15-year-olds
Students in this age group:
- Want to learn about things relevant to his/her life.
- Have the ability to think abstractly.
- Need to feel cared about and respected by the adults in their lives.
You will be important to the students you work with on this day. Developing comfortable and secure relationships with these students is a high priority.
Volunteer Preparation:
Prior to your volunteer experience, read, sign, and return the local JA Area Office required forms. If you do not have the link to these forms, check with your local JA Area Office.
- Arrive on time the day of your volunteer experience for the mandatory volunteer training. Provide adequate notice if you are unable to attend.
- Volunteers are trained the morning of the student on-site visit. Plan to arrive for training 60 minutes prior to the students’ scheduled arrival time.
- If you have been previously trained, plan to arrive 20-30 minutes prior to the students’ arrival. A Volunteer Guide and a JA staff member will be available to update you on your volunteer role and responsibilities for the day.
- Dress Code: Comfortable shoes and clothes. No jeans.
