Evaluation Results 2000/01

JA Titan School Edition Works!

A formative evaluation of JA Titan School Edition conducted throughout the 2000/01 school year by the Western Institute for Research and Evaluation (WIRE) shows increased student interest in business and economics and almost universal support for the program from teachers and volunteers.

Student Interest and Understanding of the Curriculum

  • 100% of consultants and 91% of teachers felt that the way concepts are presented in JA Titan ensures student understanding
  • All teachers who participated in a JA Titan competition noted that students enjoyed it and paid closer attention to concepts from the curriculum after the competition
  • 87% of students were actively engaged during presentations and their level of engagement was high (averaging 4.0 on a five-point scale) and 96% were on task when working on the computers
  • 83% of students found the JA Titan lessons fun and interesting
  • 67% of students who participated in a JA Titan competition said they learned a lot and looked forward to another competition

How Well Curriculum Targets Audience

  • 100% of teachers and local area staff reported the program fit with school and district objectives
  • Teachers also felt the curriculum fits nicely with “basic life skills” requirements

Support for the Program

  • 100% of teachers and 89% of consultants indicated they would be willing to participate in the program again
  • Teachers rated the overall effectiveness of the JA Titan curriculum 8.1 on a 10-point scale and consultants gave it an 8.2
  • 100% of consultants reported they receive support from their companies (e.g., time off, compensation, recognition) for participating in the JA Titan program
