Responding to the Financial Crisis
A letter from our President
The importance of what JA does is captured in our core purpose statement-inspiring and preparing young people to succeed in a global economy.
Fulfilling this purpose has never been more urgent or more important than it is today.
As President of the largest JA chapter in Pennsylvania, we trust you too will continue to voice your support of our mission throughout the region and urge your associates and colleagues to do the same. Junior Achievement is keenly positioned as a provider of programs that teach workforce readiness skills, entrepreneurship and FINANCIAL LITERACY. Perhaps at no other time in our history is there more of an opportunity to become actively involved with teaching children and their families about financial matters.
The Junior Achievement staff is aggressively going out to meet with our Board Members and YOU, our key partners. There has never been a better time for us to go out and individually meet with donors, especially our largest donors, to reinforce that the investment they make in JA attacks the very root of the problem that brought on this crisis, financial illiteracy.
We intend on keeping a long-term perspective on the current financial crisis. Since 1939 Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania has achieved remarkable success through some tough times. But we need you, as members of Junior Achievement to hold fast to our principles to INVEST. INVOLVE. INSPIRE.
We hope that you are as encouraged about the future as we are. Our boundless belief in the potential of young people and the power of the entrepreneurial spirit has convinced us that the best is yet to come for Junior Achievement, for our young people, and for our country.
Thank you very much for your continued support of Junior Achievement throughout western Pennsylvania.
Sincerely,
Dennis P. Gilfoyle
President, Junior Achievement of Western PA
One way in which JA Worldwide has taken a lead in educating young people about the crisis is by providing them with timely information that will help them understand the present crisis and, more importantly, how a similar crisis may be averted in the future. To that end, the third in a series of Critical Issues White Papers focusing on the economy has been released. Junior Achievement has again commissioned Dr. Raymond Lambda, Professor of Economics at Pennsylvania State University, to write this paper entitled The U.S. Financial Crisis: Global Repercussions. This paper provides an explanation of the global impact of the financial crisis. Click HERE to download the publication!
