Junior Achievement will ensure that every child in America has a fundamental understanding of the Free Enterprise System.

 

PURPOSE

 

Junior Achievement educates and inspires young people to value free enterprise, business and economics to improve the quality of their lives while encouraging them to stay in school by making learning relevant.


HISTORY

Junior Achievement was founded by business people in 1919 to teach students about the free enterprise system.  JA of North Florida was established in 1963.  JA Worldwide® is headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  There are 150 JA areas in the USA and another 100 in foreign countries.


STUDENT IMPACT

Worldwide, Junior Achievement reaches 7 million students.  Junior Achievement of North Florida reached 16,400 students in the 2006-2007 school year - 67% more students than 2005-2006!

PROGRAM SCOPE

Junior Achievement offers professionally designed and tested programs that meet Florida's Sunshine State Standards.  JA programs are taught in kindergarten through twelfth grade.  See individual program pages for specific information and offerings.


VOLUNTEERS

Junior Achievement's volunteers are local businesspeople who inspire kids and serve as valuable role models illustrating the importance of education. These dedicated individuals are the backbone of the organization.


FUNDING

Junior Achievement is a 501(c)(3) that is funded through corporate and personal contributions, special events such as  golf tournaments and Bowlathon’s, and foundations.  Although Junior Achievement does not belong to the United Way, it can be designated as a United Way recipient by individual contributors.  Additionally, no more than 10% of JA's budget can be from government funds.
