Henry Kaiser doubled the business of the shop where he worked in one year. He was given half interest in the shop, tripled the business, and at 23 became the sole owner. Kaiser Enterprises built roads in California and completed the Hoover Dam, both ahead of schedule. During World War II, Kaiser broke records for speedy construction. After the war, he established the first integrated steel mill on the West Coast and established a major aluminum company. Perhaps his most memorable organization was the Kaiser-Permanente health plan, a farsighted venture stressing preventive medicine. |
