John Erik Jonsson worked for Geophysical Service, Inc. a company that was based on a new technique of exploring for oil. He helped keep GSI alive during World War II with defense contracts for electronics. At the end of the War, he moved the company into electronics manufacturing. The company’s big breakthrough came in making silicon transistors developed by Bell Labs. As Texas Instruments, the company competed with General Electric and RCA for leadership of the transistor market.
