Milton Hershey established the Lancaster Caramel Co. The company was so successful that it began exporting in bulk to England where, Hershey noted, buyers coated the caramel with chocolate. Milton sold the Lancaster Caramel Co. in 1900 so he could concentrate on the Hershey Chocolate Co. He built a new factory in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and began making his chocolate bar. It was so popular that the company did not advertise it until 25 years after his death. |
