Paul Henson's first job was with Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph in Nebraska. In 1959, as vice president of United Utilities, Henson helped lead a modernization campaign that added new technologies to phone service. When he became United Utilities Chairman and President in 1966, it was a regional communications powerhouse serving 970,000 customers in 17 states. During the next two decades, United Utilities became United Telecom and then US Sprint, following a joint partnership with GTE. In the mid 1980s, US Sprint launched a 23,000 mile, transcontinental, all-digital, fiber-optic network–the foundation for Sprint’s success today. |
