Edwin Land was in New Mexico with his family when his 3-year-old daughter asked why she could not see the picture her father had just taken. He took a walk to think about it and developed the design for an instant camera within the hour. Land knew that his camera was more than a gimmick; that he was selling "the realization of an impulse: see it, touch it, have it." The cameras sold out on the first day they went on sale in Boston. |
