Mary Kay Ash launched her company with her life savings of $5,000 and the help of her son. She kept her first line simple and packaged her products in pink to contrast with the typical black and red toiletry cases of the day. Ash enlisted independent representatives who held small “beauty shows” for five or six women at a time so that the clients could get more attention. Today, Mary Kay Cosmetics is the largest direct-selling skin care company in the United States. |
