Benjamin Franklin was the first American to win international acclaim among his fellow intellectuals. At a young age, he became an apprentice and essayist on his brother’s paper. At 17, he published a periodical, The Pennsylvania Gazette. He trained other printers and gave them money to set up their own shops. He sold his business interests at age 42 and started his long career in public service, diplomacy, and science. | ||||||||
