Trammell Crow started by leasing a warehouse to Ray-O-Vac in Dallas. Within a year, he was building warehouses on speculation and coordinating multi-occupancy projects. He leased properties in his own name to get loans from institutions skittish about financing buildings that were not leased. He built the Dallas Homefurnishings Mart, a 434,000-square-foot structure devoted to wholesale furniture showrooms. He later converted it into the Dallas Market Center which contains eight million square feet of permanent exhibition space. He built trade marts from Atlanta to Brussels and was the leading developer of major mixed-use projects in urban centers. |
