Robert B. Wegman is one of the most admired leaders in the supermarket industry. His company, with 66 stores in four states, is among the largest private companies in the nation and has been on FORTUNE’s list of the 100 Best Companies to Work for in America for seven years.
In 1950, Wegman took the helm of the company started by his father and uncle in 1916 and built his success on the simple idea that it was essential to treat customers and employees right. He played a leading role in one of the most fundamental industry changes, development of the Universal Product Code.
Wegman has personally invested in his community, especially in support of Catholic education. He also invested in his people with a scholarship program that has awarded $52 million to 16,000 employees. |
