David Hall McConnell began a legacy of business success in 1886 when he founded Avon Products. With Avon, McConnell created a significant earning opportunity for housewives and other women before they had even won the right to vote. His unique approach offered this sales opportunity to women who lived in the communities where their customers lived, which was in contrast with the common model of the traveling salesman. Later, he helped found the Suffern National Bank and served as its president and chairman. Today Avon Products, Inc. remains the largest direct seller of beauty products in the world.
