Alfred P. Sloan, Jr., reorganized General Motors in the 1920s so successfully that most large U.S. corporations, including Ford, have followed the principles that Sloan developed. He sometimes referred to his system as “scientific management.” Sloan began his career as a draftsman in a small machine shop, the Hyatt Roller Bearing Company. The company merged with United Motors Corporation and then General Motors Corporation. Seven years later he became president of General Motors and developed a system of disciplined, professional management. |
