Richard Sears was a brilliant salesman who generated orders for merchandise that he could not always deliver. Julius Rosenwald was prudent and eminently trustworthy. Together they made the ideal entrepreneur. Sears started the successful company at age 23. He was very disorganized and welcomed the order Rosenwald brought to the business. In return for 25 percent of the company's shares and a position as vice president, Rosenwald helped pay down the debt and organized distribution and production. Rosenwald even devised a sophisticated assembly line to process orders.
