Marvin Bower, a founder of modern management consulting, brought McKinsey & Company to New York from the Midwest 50 years ago and then to the major cities of the world. Throughout his career, Bower emphasized the importance of finding young talent. His method, still followed at McKinsey, was to hire graduates directly out of business school and encourage them to perform like entrepreneurs, with compensation to match.
