Don Regan, returned from World War II and found a job in New York with Merrill Lynch. He made partner at age 35, the youngest ever at the time, and took over the Philadelphia office. He returned to New York in the late Fifties on the condition that he could set up a long-range planning department, an idea that was rare in industry and practically unthinkable on Wall Street. Regan believed that Merrill should expand the services it offered. He instituted his ideas when he became chairman in 1971. |
