Ed Pratt joined Pfizer as its controller in 1964. Previously he had been a star salesman at IBM and had served in the Kennedy Administration. At Pfizer, however, Pratt had his most profound impact. During his tenure, Pratt helped integrate the pharmaceutical company’s domestic and international operations. In 1972, when Pfizer was a billion-dollar business with 36,000 employees, Pratt took over as Chairman & CEO. Through a progressive management style and a strong emphasis on Research & Development, Pratt’s leadership made Pfizer a global leader in the pharmaceutical industry. |
