Wallace R. Persons believed that the game of business was fascinating. He took Emerson Electric from a manufacturer of fans and small electric motors to technological and managerial preeminence. During a time in which large companies were absorbing small companies, Persons decided to expand Emerson slowly, picking up one good company per year. Emerson’s earnings set new records in each of the last 15 years of Persons' tenure, which included four major recessions. |
