Liz Claiborne had the style that made the company bearing her name. She was the chief executive and creative force. Her husband, Arthur Ortenberg, served as vice chairman and supplied managerial talent to match Claiborne's creative brilliance. Claiborne spent 25 years as a fashion designer and Ortenberg had been running his own textile company. In 1976 they founded Liz Claiborne Inc. Claiborne created a line of soft, attractive, colorful clothing styled for the women who were entering the working world. Ortenberg maintained prompt delivery and quality control. |
