Thomas Murphy took over Hudson Valley Broadcasting, a tiny, bankrupt television station near Albany when he was 29. In only three years, he took the station to profitability. He began acquiring other stations to build a network. His first acquisition was a station in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina. These two stations gave the company a new name: Capital Cities Communications. In 1970 he purchased Triangle Broadcasting. Murphy made almost 100 successful offers for newspapers, radio stations, and cable television programming companies. He even acquired ABC. |
