After World War II, President Truman gave John McCloy the task of rebuilding the German economy. He completed his “economic miracle” in 1953 and returned to the States, where he assumed the job of chairman of the board of Chase National Bank. McCloy put Chase National Bank under Manhattan’s inviolable charter. Chase Manhattan Bank was born. After retiring at age 60, McCloy served as the chief disarmament for President Kennedy. | ||||||||
