JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT OF GREATER OWENSBORO'S DOUGLAS HONORED WITH NATIONAL AWARD

Colorado Springs, Colo. - Dan Douglas, president of Junior Achievement of Greater Owensboro, has been named the 2008 recipient of the Junior Achievement Karl Flemke Pioneer Achievement Award. The award is given to first-time Junior Achievement presidents who have demonstrated outstanding contributions and achievements to the organization. The award was presented at the JA Worldwide Leadership Conference in Miami Beach, Fla., on July 18. Douglas was chosen over four other finalists from New Mexico, Florida, South Carolina, and California.

"Winning this award is a tremendous honor, but really represents the hard work of the staff and board of directors of Junior Achievement of Greater Owensboro," said Douglas. "With their passion and dedication, and with the help of our supporters and volunteers, I hope we can continue to experience significant growth."

Sean C. Rush, president and chief executive officer of JA Worldwide, noted, "Dan's accomplishments are a wonderful example for all new JA Executives to follow, and we are thrilled to recognize him with this award."

During Douglas's tenure as president, JA of Greater Owensboro has increased the number of students served by almost 900 percent, from 905 students to more than 9,000 students during the 07-08 school year. Entering the 08-09 school year, the staff and board of JA of Greater Owensboro will implement a strategic plan which will add 17 counties to their area, becoming JA of Western Kentucky, with a goal of serving 15,000 students yearly by 2011.

The Karl Flemke Pioneer Achievement Award is named after Karl Flemke, the president of Junior Achievement Inc. from 1982 until his death in 1994.
