MEMORANDUM FOR: SEE DISTRIBUTION

SUBJECT: Junior Achievement National Military Role Model Program (JANMR)

1. We will kick off our Junior Achievement National Military Role Model Program (JANMR) the week of 10 July at the Junior Achievement National Convention in Charlotte, NC. USAREC will implement the program throughout the Command during School Year 2000. We need all Recruiting Command personnel to be involved in promoting and supporting this program and its important messages to teenagers and the public.

2. JANMR is the result of a national-level partnership between USAREC and the Junior Achievement (JA) organization. The program provides recruiters with opportunities to make recurring visits to schools, to impart valuable information and military experiences, and to foster a positive role model of the Army soldier for students, educators, and counselors. Today’s youth face many serious pressures, issues, and life choices. Our partnership with Junior Achievement places recruiters in ideal positions to serve as role models and mentors to these youth. You can make a difference in the life of a young man or woman through your experience and example. At every command level I encourage you to participate in this mutually beneficial alliance.

3. To ensure the success of our program, I need your personal involvement. Commanders, recruiters, advertising and public affairs specialists, and education services specialists all have essential roles in executing and supporting this program. The Junior Achievement National Military Role Model program strategy is enclosed. This strategy outlines the program’s purpose, message points, execution, and control and evaluation. I highly encourage you to develop partnerships with local JA offices and personnel. I appreciate your commitment and hard work in supporting our program to present to America’s youth the positive image, role model, and mentor that is the U.S. Army soldier. Staff proponent for this program is HQ USAREC, Advertising & Public Affairs Directorate, Local Advertising & Promotions Division.
